out of the blue - photographic exhibition

out of the blue by Kali van der Merwe at MisaelGo and see artist Kali van der Merwe's photographic exhibition, out of the blue, celebrating the female form, it’s eroticism and sensuality, as an expression of spirituality and the deepest self. It was opened 10 December by Dr Marlene Wasserman (Dr Eve) to the gentle background sounds of mbira player and singer Dingiswayo Juma at Misael on Bree Street in Cape Town.

out of the blue is far more than an exhibition of photo's depicting the female form in water. Of course there is the artistry, the textures of light, the elegance of form, but as Kali says "something happened that [she] did not consciously shape".

For me, in these pictures where I hear the silence of the water and feel the weightlessness of form, I sense the intimate and personal journey that formed these visual images. Kali, in being present to capture this experience, was in the delicate position of being witness to the expression of truth of another, Rhianne van der Linde, in all her naked vulnerability.

These are Rhianne's pictures, recording her exploration of her own raw, vulnerable and undefended self. She says: "My spirituality and my sexuality are not polarities. They are an expression of each other.". Any opportunty we have to come face-to-face with our deepest honesty is a spiritual moment.

I applaude Rhianne's great courage and Kali's intuitive talent in bringing this experience to others as a message of possibility for women's divine nature.

To see the exhibited pictures and read more about their experience view intimate portraits - out of the blue. The exhibition runs until the 31st December.
