The Game of Life

I have been training for 60 days to do the Two Oceans Half Marathon. Is it enough? I find out THIS SATURDAY.

I also decided to raise money for a worthy cause. Can I do it? Obviously I need your help. Let us make it: "Can WE do it?"

This is like a game. You can participate, have some fun and benefit AIDS orphans of South Africa. Take a moment to watch Jane McGonigal's TED talk on taking the value of games into solving real world problems. I don't know much about gaming but I enjoyed the possibility of and was inspired by what she said.

In gaming language, raising R10,000 would be an 'epic win'. Seems impossible. But in games one always sets out to achieve the impossible win. It's done by believing in achieving the unachievable and by working together. 100 people donating R100 is already R10,000 - it's not that impossible. If just two people donate R1000 each, just 80 more with their R100 will do it. And for at least one individual or organisation, pledging the full R10,000 is entirely feasible. Can we make the total amount raised R20,000. Why not? It's what makes an epic win that exciting.

Get involved by pledging a donation yourself or tell as many people as you know about this and encourage them to participate. Think of this as our game.

All pledges received are announced on Facebook, Twitter and here (anonymously if you wish).

Are we the only loonies trying to do something this 'out-there'? I get inspiration from other South Africans like:

I look forward to reading your comments.
