Description
Taoist Elemental cycle through Dance
Facilitated by Stephen Tredrea and Zo Hoka Dashati
As Earth's sun cycle moves from late Summer into Autumn, we explore this inner transition in dance using the Taoist Elemental cycles.
This is the time of sweetness, the late harvest when over-ripeness occurs. Represented by the element Earth, there is a pause at the greatest point of summer's expansion. Now we begin our retreat as Autumn begins, the element Metal, letting go what no longer serves us.
The dance is facilitated free-form dance guided by Taoist principles and the music itself. Inner and outer realities are given form in the ranges between movement and stillness, music and silence, individual and group. It encourages you to bring embodied presence into every moment, finding the willingness and openness to connect in a way that 'me' and 'other' dissolve.

Taoism
From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taoism):
Taoists believe that man is a microcosm for the universe. The body ties directly into the Chinese five elements. The five organs correlate with the five elements, the five directions and the seasons. Akin to the Hermetic maxim of "as above, so below", Taoism posits that man may gain knowledge of the universe by understanding himself.
In Taoism, even beyond Chinese folk religion, various rituals, exercises, and substances are said to positively affect one's physical and mental health. They are also intended to align oneself spiritually with cosmic forces, or enable ecstatic spiritual journeys. These concepts seem basic to Taoism in its elite forms. Internal alchemy and various spiritual practices are used by some Taoists to improve health and extend life, theoretically even to the point of physical immortality.
The Facilitators
Stephen Tredrea is a Tantra teacher with the Advait Tantra School. He facilitates Blissdance, an expression of Tantra through dance, with Dr Shakti Malan. His ongoing exploration includes: dance and movement; body, energy and breath work; meditation and Buddhist studies; Tai Chi practice; and counselling training. Influences flow from various therapeutic, mystery and spiritual practices including Buddhist Tantra, ancient shamanic techniques, and Rudolph Steiner's Anthroposophy. His interest in this work starts with the individual, extending into relationship and deep intimacy, and then out to community.
Zo Hoka Dashati is a Tao practitioner with 5 years of training at the London Tao Centre which included tai chi, chi kung and meditation. She facilitates women's circles bringing healing and balance through the awareness of these old traditions. Her practice specialises in supporting pregnant women using massage, meditation and internal chi kung.
Zo and Stephen are practitioners of Phakalane.
