Sexuality Reclaimed talk at Phakalane...Recent articles by two sex-positive authors express their feelings of shame when met with disapproval in the society they live. Anonymous blogger of The Beautiful Kind wrote on aagblog.com that she "was in a sound tunnel of shame, a total state of shock, my face was bright red.". On SexIs, sex educator Sarah Sloan describes her experience as "one of the singularly most shaming experiences of my sex-positive life, at the hands of a paid healthcare professional." It reminds me of my interest in chosing the path I do. I believe no one escapes the shame, guilt and humiliation we feel towards the exposed and vulnerable rawness of our sexuality. Yet there is a contradiction. Our sexuality is also an exquisite expression of our human nature and it brought each of us into existence. I, for one, strive to embrace my sexuality - to honour, celebrate and experience its beauty - but realise I must face also the dark feelings that hold me back. This is a starting point for the work of Tantra.

April flashed by. I gave two well received talks on conscious sexuality and attended AfrikaBurn, which was certainly a highlight. Aside from everything that was magnificent and inspiring, AfrikaBurn reflected back to me a bouquet of beliefs I carry and project. As I become aware of these, they begin to unlock and the effects resonate into my life. Wow!

The other highlight was a successful Drakensberg retreat where ten of us dipped into our rawness and dared to face whatever the next thing was holding us back from living fully. It was powerful, and beautiful for me to witness the extraordinary shifts that took place for each person there. This Tantric Love Retreat is being repeated along the same theme in Cape Town during May. This is the last retreat for a while - there are still spaces available but book now.

Coming up in May:

  • Thursday 13th, The Breakfast Thing - this month we'll be meeting at The Annex, recently opened as an addition to Kalk Bay Books. It's behind the book shop in Majestic Village opposite Cape to Cuba on the Main Road through Kalk Bay. We'll be discussing what holds us back in encounters with our sexuality.

  • Saturday 15th, The Masculine Identity workshop - being run at Phakalane in Hout Bay, this workshop for men explores beliefs and perceptions about masculine identity, gender, sexuality and intimacy and considers possibilities for full and authentic expression of the masculine.

  • Thursday evening 20th - Sunday 23rd, Tantric Love Retreat - moved to Oceans' Echo in Fish Hoek, this residential is structured to accommodate newcomers and those already exploring Tantra. It is for singles or couples and offers profound transformation of your reality and sense of yourself.

There was no Living Tantra this month, as I took a lesson in self-care and honouring the bodies need to heal, and is no Movie Night as the Tantric Love Retreat starts on the evening.

If ever you cannot make an event's date or are in another city but am interested in participating, please let me know so I can consider for future scheduling.

In the beauty of being,
Stephen
